Not Christmas Specific...

but festive nonetheless.

A Grace Kelly Christmas

1970s Nina Ricci on Ebay

I think this is a very cool chic boho dress (rather than boho chic). Although the black and gray makes for a drab ensemble the shape and frill (not to mention velvet bodice) make it a fun party dress. I might where it with stacked red suede Louboutins IN MY DREAMS!!! By the way, I think that vintage Nina Ricci gets really overlooked on ebay on often is very affordable (not the case with this dress), so keep your eyes peeled.

Party Dress Perfection - Vintage YSL

This amazing party dress is on ebay right now for about $600 dollars US. Pricey, and small, but amazing. A testament to what a holiday party dress should be.

1960s Hippie De Luxe Coat by Bill Blass

This coat is hippie de luxe perfection. It is on ebay and the bidding is at $71 dollar US. 3 bids so far with 6 days to go, this gem is going to go for A LOT. It is really gorgeous, it is like something a prim Talitha Getty would wear!

Vintage Geoffrey Beene on Ebay

I think this is a lovely holiday gown, a bit conservative, but also very Grace Kelly. I wanted to set up the link for this, but it kept screwing up the images, if you want more info I can send the link, although this dress is about $600, and you might not get a lot of use out of it. Merry Regal Christmas.

Christmasperation - Peggy Lee

Holiday Wear

I feel like when it comes to holiday wear, all bets are off. As far as I'm concerned at a holiday party you can wear whatever you want (as far as dress clothes are concerned). Tacky, avante garde, vintage, retro, it is all good. With that in mind I am going to present some possible holiday dresses for you guys. I still haven't found a holiday dress for myself, but I'm hoping to get some inspiration from ebay! Too bad it is too late to buy a dress on ebay in time for the holidays! Above is a still from the holiday party in Meet Me in St. Louis.

Christmas Time Is Here Again...

Hi all, I've been away from the blog for awhile, got a job, but lost the drive to write and post. I think that I also lost my inspiration for fashion! However, with the holiday season upon us and so many fun parties to go to, I have regained my want to dress fancy and look pretty! I wore a great vintage 60s Star Trek looking dress to a party last weekend on a whim (my friend gave it to me awhile ago and I thought that I would never wear it), and it was a hit! So I decided outrageous vintage is going to be my look for the holiday season. I've been shopping around on ebay, but I think that this is going to have to be a Jewish Women's Council Thrift Store operation (these are located in the L.A. area). The JWC Thift shops are great for affordable vintage in good shape (by affordable I mean there are deals, but things are not cheap), and a good selection. I don't trust ebay for vintage dresses because of sizing, but I have found lots of great coats to go over the dresses which usually work - there will be an upcoming post on coats found on ebay. Anyway it is my hope to post 12 days of holiday dresses (we'll see). At least I can post the one dress that I wore the other night. I'm going to use Miss Yvonne as model of how I want my holiday wardrobe to look. Go big or go home!

Fashion's Personalities on The Love Boat

Welly, welly, well...I was doing some research for The Love Boat this week and I stumbled upon this episode with fashion's personalities of the early 1980s. I haven't watched the whole episode yet, but I am willing to bet that it is awesome. I think it is season 4 episode 25 - title: Model Marriage, A/This Year's Model/Original Sin/Vogue Rogue/Too Clothes for Comfort: Part 1 - yes there is a part 2 of the same title.

Yohji Yamamoto Fall 2010

I'm really into Japanese designers right now, and here are some of my favorites from the Yohji Yamamoto Fall ready to wear collection. I like how the clothes are avante garde yet have the components of a classic fall wardrobe. Fall coats are turned into dresses, the classic suits have unusual proportions, asymmetrical coat dresses, AND traditional coats! This is a truly fantastic collection. I did check out the Fall 2010 Comme Des Garcons collection as well, and I would say that it is just strange and not stylish which disappoints me.

PS I like to look at Fall collections in the Fall rather than months before when they debut.

Up For Auction

Yohji Yamamoto + Noir kilt-style skirt, 100% wool (but really really soft wool). The Noir label was launched in 1995 and emphasizes classic Yamamoto design. The clothes are usually black, so this is an unusual piece because it is brown.

Here is the link if you are interested in purchasing!

The Prophetess Libuse

This is The Prophetess Libuse by Karel Vitezslav Masek circa 1893 featured in the art nouveau decorative arts wing of the Musee d'Orsay. I have been thinking about it a lot and decided to search it out today....and...well....here it is, I hope you like it too.

Collectors Gallery - Brussels

In Brussels we happened upon a lovely jewelry boutique called the Collectors Gallery. The woman working (Shu Shu - spelling?) was so wonderful and accommodating. The gallery has a range of unusual jewels at a range of prices. I bought this praline ring by Nikki Boden for around $35, but there were rare Lagerfeld for Chanel runway jewels as well. I told Shu Shu how much I love Chanel and she actually let me play with the collection of gorgeous bangle bracelets. It is a wonderful place to check out in Brussels. Below are some other Nikki Boden designed rings that I want. I'm hoping to carry her jewelry when we finally start our Etsy store!
