Venus In Furs

I call this Venus in Furs because the title character of Belle De Jour is Severine a reference to the character Severine from the book by Masoch Venus in Furs, which is a delightfully sadomasochistic read (in fact Masoch is the Masoch in masochism). This film too delves into the sadomasochistic and deals with a woman who is a prostitute by day and housewife by night. Naturally being a rich Parisian housewife she wears Yves Saint Laurent when on route to the brothel! Yves Saint Laurent dressed Catherine Denueve in this Bunuel film and the look is impeccably seductive and demure, straight laced and provocative at the same time.
